State leadership is quietly advancing a plan that would overturn the 1995 Settlement Agreement - a historic pact designed to ensure our state would never become the nation’s permanent dumping ground for spent nuclear fuel.

Governor Little’s new agreements open the door to bring significantly more nuclear waste into Idaho - potentially making our state a permanent home for 66 million pounds of the nation’s spent fuel and radioactive waste.

This deal promises thousands of jobs and billions of dollars of investment, but gives no substantive plan for either. The United States' debt currently stands at 40 trillion dollars. We should be skeptical of promises of money from the Federal Government in these circumstances. Governor Little claims it will not impact the Snake River Plain Aquifer, but he has not provided any due diligence to substantiate this claim.

More work needs to be done before we mortgage our future to bring nuclear waste to Idaho.

The Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is an Idaho treasure, serving as a national model for research and innovation, especially as it relates to nuclear technology. It collaborates with and creates opportunities for Idaho scientists, and generates important cutting-edge research that benefits Idaho and the nation. However, this agreement appears to turn Idaho into a nuclear waste dump site, rather than continuing its path as an exceptional nuclear facility.

This is happening very quickly because the faster they get it done, the less time people have to spread the word of what is happening.

Our health, environment, and our aquifer are too precious to gamble with.
